Thurman's fashion-conscious travelling garb gives hope to some of the fabulous ensembles to come. Cast your mind back 12 months, and you'll recall glamorous jury member Kate Beckinsale working the red carpet in frothy gowns courtesy of Nina Ricci, Armani Privé, Balmain and Marchesa - often changing several times a day. Alongside Ms Thurman, we also expect to see Tilda Swinton, Carey Mulligan, Christina Hendricks, Penélope Cruz and Rachel McAdams cutting a dash as they promote their latest films at the event. Hopefully the latter will concoct enough razzle dazzle to gloss over the fact that a certain Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, the elegant 'First Lady' of France who has a small role in Woody Allen's new picture Midnight in Paris , will be absent from the festival altogether.
