Golden Globes 2013: The thigh-high split makes a red carpet

Angelina Jolie may have been a no-show at last night's Golden Globes, but her infamously precocious leg certainly wasn't. We look at who did it right, and who did it wrong.

If this were an 'Angie's Leg' barometer, Halle would be sub-zero. She's already topping the worst-dressed lists, so we don't want to kick her while she's down, but… we're going to. There were many things wrong with this Versace number - a muffin top-making cut out, garish print and bulging one-shoulder fit and not even a hint of classicism - and, quite simply, the thigh-high split was the straw that broke Berry's sartorial back. Add to that her willingness to 'feel the breeze' (i.e. her exaggerated pose) and it's a big no-no.

Golden Globes 2013: The best beauty looks

From the new Forties inspired hair and this season's colour wave to those perennial red carpet classics, here's our edit of the best beauty looks from the 2013 Golden Globe Awards.

 Not veering far from her signature Sixties look (cat flick liner, beehive and pale lip) singer Adele simply turns up the gloss and glamour for her red carpet moment.

 Created by stylist Adir Abergel (a member of the Frederic Fekkai dream team and the LA go to salon for red carpet hair) Anne Hathaway 's super chic, elfin crop got a little better with added texture for real effortless glamour.

 Amanda Seyfried does peaches and creamy make up with gently brushed out tonged hair proving that less is most definitely more if you want to make it modern on the red carpet now.

 Glenn Close may have mismatched her earrings but kept it low key with a beautiful barely there base and a touch of pink on her cheeks and lips. Keeping volume away from her crown also kept her hair bang on trend.

 Golden girl Heidi Klum embraces this year's love affair with side swept hair, but keeps it this side of the Forties with fresh, glowing skin a la spring/summer 2013.

 One of this year's most in-demand faces gets it right again. Jessica Chastain' s pinky red lip, fresh bare skin, exaggerated eye and Forties inspired hair nails all the biggest trends for this season, and beautifully so.

 That hair (so on trend) that hint of electric orange lip (so good, and so now, if paired with a thick black lash) makes Jessica Alba one of our biggest beauty hits on the red carpet.

 For american actress Rosario Dawson make up artist Mai Quynh created a beautifully understated look, by blending Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Terracotta, layered with Laura Mercier Eye Colour in Ground Coffee on the eyes. For the skin Quynh used Clarins Skin Smoothing Primer and Laura Mercier Oil-Free Supreme Foundation over the top, with a little pop of Nars Powder Blush in Amour over the apples of the cheeks.

Golden Globes 2012: Red carpet fashion hits and misses

CHARLIZE THERON in Christian Dior
The 'Young Adult' star, outfitted by Dior - for whom she is a spokesmodel - radiated Twenties glamour as she took to the carpet. From the delicate headband to the blush hue of her bow-trimmed gown, this is the dreamiest look of the night.

NATALIE PORTMAN in Lanvin
While we adore the colour of this Lanvin creation, the design itself is lacklustre. Portman was pregnant this time last year, and this gown suggests she still hasn't quite got her red carpet groove back just yet.

You have to admire Beckinsale's dedication to the cause: she has undoubtedly been preparing for this moment for weeks, and from her toned, caramel-coloured arms to the diamonds artfully co-ordinated to go with her gown, she's nothing but an impeccable hit.

MADONNA in Reem Acra and ANDREA RISEBOROUGH in Vivienne Westwood
Madonna's Popeye biceps, heaving bosom and fingerless glove are spoiling what is otherwise a gorgeous gown. Meanwhile, her leading lady Andrea Riseborough looked exactly like the Hollywood megastar she is fast becoming.

JESSICA ALBA in Gucci
Let's be honest, Jessica Alba could rock up in a onesie accessorised with a bumbag and still look the picture of perfection...

NICOLE KIDMAN in Versace
What's Kidman looking so pleased about? We predict she's gloating about her impossibly tiny frame because it certainly isn't her studded dress - which although rather glam-tastic, looks like it was designed with someone half her age in mind. Plus, when did snoozy Kidman get all ghetto fabulous?

MICHELLE WILLIAMS in Jason Wu
The 'My Week with Marilyn Star' Best Actress dresses to please herself - a refreshing trait in Tinseltown. Are her and Charlize kick-starting a headband trend?

Golden Globes Red Carpet Arrivals

The Golden Globes brought in celebs wearing all sorts of different gowns. This year some of the most talked about dresses were from the following.

Rene Zelleweger was wearing a black Carolina Herrera dress with see through top. Not a favorite among the dresses, however it did make the news.



Jennifer Lopez was spotted with hubby Mark Anthony (whose relationship seems to be on the rocks), however the singer/actress made a wise fashion choice with her Marchesa gold gown.



The always fabulous Beyonce was wearing an Elie Saab dress that showed off her toned legs with a gigantic slit.



Drew Barrymore was stunning (and also resembled Marylin Monroe a little) in her Dior Haute Couture which was custom made by John Galliano himself!



Cameron Diaz was not afraid of colour with her pink chanel Haute Couture dress.



Blake Lively choose a stunning blue Nina Ricci dress which suited her perfectly.


Miley Cyrus looked cute as a button in her white strapless Marchesa gown!
