Trending: Leather trousers

One of the trickiest trends of the year - not least because of their 'sausage leg' and 'lady of the night' connotations - fashion's movers and shakers are loving leather-look trousers this autumn.

New York's current street style guru, Miranda Kerr , stepped out in leather trousers and a host of chic accessories this autumn, with son, Flynn, in tow.
Luxe leather was the order of the day at Valentino 's A/W '12 show; with the texture trend extending from trousers to full-on jumpsuits.
Sticking to his signature style, Gareth Pugh 's A/W '12 collection saw models encased in tight leather trousers and much structured, dark tailoring on top.
Navy and red stripes marry well with leather drainpipe trousers on this Milan S/S '13 show goer.
Not one to shy away from the more 'out-there' end of the trend spectrum, pop star Rihanna embraced the tricky, wide-leg leather trouser look when in New York this winter.
Alexander Wang showcased some leather-panelled, tapered trousers, cut neatly to sit on the models' ankles, in his A/W '12 collection.
Derek Lam channelled cowboy chaps, and offset them against delicate sandals and plain tops, for his monochrome-hued A/W '12 collection.
Model Jessica Hart teamed her leather trousers with Breton stripes and a slouchy trench coat, for a modern take on a couple of classics.

Trending: Side-swept hair

There's a pics show going on for hair right now; and it's universally flattering, as long as your pick your best side. So do as the celebrities and catwalk models are doing this season and support the new one-sided argument.

Scarlett Johansson reinvents her hair again, but of course doesn't stray far from her signature Forties finish by working those wavy gravy curls into the lengths.
Kristen Stewart has made the laissez-faire side sweep part of her style DNA.
Kate Bosworth knows that the secret to making a less than full head of hair look thicker, is to sweep its entirety over to one side.
The Lanvin catwalk is always one show to watch if you want to predict trends. Take note not just of the graphic black liner, but also the considered side-sweep, made more modern by the low maintenance fly-aways, which both made their way from runway to real life with aplomb this season.

Trending: Purple

From deep purple crop tops, to lavender shoes via aubergine lips - purple is the hottest hue to be snapped in.
Top model Arizona Muse dazzled in her Amethyst Alberta Ferretti gown, when she stopped in at Garage Magazine's soirée in Paris over the weekend.
The models at Haider Ackermann choose to keep their purple lips firmly on when they hit the streets post-show.
Blogger of-the-moment, Hanneli Mustaparta , showed just why she has become one of the most snapped during fashion month when she trotted out this cropped purple polo.
Fashion editor Anna Dello Russo looked positively regal striding through the traffic in Milan with her Ribena-hued shoes.
Queen of clashing, blogger Susie Bubble , showed us how to punctuate purple by adding a splash of yellow.
Purple reigned supreme for Christopher Kane , who doused his models (and catwalk) in shades of lilac, aubergine and deep purple for autumn/winter 2012.
...and model Jade Parfitt was one of the many to try it out for his most recent London show.
Despite its tricky nature, a purple mohair knit is bound to become a hot, key staple for winter.
Sometimes, a purple Prada bag is all you need.
Erdem 's girlie dresses took a more gothic route this winter when he teamed a shiny violet brocade with patent leather lace.

Trending: little red dresses

Move over LBD, this season it's all about the LRD (Little Red Dress), the red carpet's new best friend...

Chloe Moretz looks so ladylike in Calvin Klein, it's hard to believe she's only 15 years old.
Chunky heels and a decent sized handbag are all you need to take your LRD from day to night like Miranda Kerr .
Lana Del Rey braved the British weather at Radio 1's Hackney Weekend in this red puffball mini.

At the Victoria Secret 'What Is Sexy Now' party in Los Angeles, Doutzen Kroes made sure she stood out amongst the other Angels in this red ruched mini.
There was much speculation as to what The Duchess of Cambridge would wear for her appearance alongside the Queen at the Diamond Jubilee. Whilst this Alexander McQueen outfit was a bold choice, the colour lends an air of confidence and Kate looks entirely at ease.
The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence shows off her tanned and toned figure in a lacy Marchesa dress.
Super short, sheer and scarlet, this lacy minidress may not be for the faint-hearted but then Valentino is catering for a special type of lady. If you're a long-limbed and slim supermodel-type, this pre-fall dress could be the LRD for you.
A little red dress can be girly as well as sexy, as Ginnifer Goodwin proved at Comic Con earlier this month.
When it comes to matching your make-up to your little red dress, nude lips are the obvious choice. But why not try something different? Kate Bosworth plumped for a blood orange shade at this year's Sundance Film Festival and added shoes to match.

Trending: Midi length skirts

As mid-length hemlines provide the perfect cover-up for a rainy summer, see how the designers reinvented the ladylike silhouette in their Pre-Fall collections.

Designer Roksanda Iincic offset her straight midi skirts with soft, peplum-frilled tops in her Pre-Fall 2012 range.
Model Selita Ebanks pairs her pleated midi skirt with a chunky pair of espadrille wedges.
Designer Richard Nicoll continues his nod to the sheer trend with a delicately layered midi skirt for Pre-Fall.
We love Paris Haute Couture Week show-goer Ulyana Sergeenko's muted, dot-print uniform.
