Golden Globes 2013: The thigh-high split makes a red carpet

Angelina Jolie may have been a no-show at last night's Golden Globes, but her infamously precocious leg certainly wasn't. We look at who did it right, and who did it wrong.

The ones who did it wrong…
If this were an 'Angie's Leg' barometer, Halle would be sub-zero. She's already topping the worst-dressed lists, so we don't want to kick her while she's down, but… we're going to. There were many things wrong with this Versace number - a muffin top-making cut out, garish print and bulging one-shoulder fit and not even a hint of classicism - and, quite simply, the thigh-high split was the straw that broke Berry's sartorial back. Add to that her willingness to 'feel the breeze' (i.e. her exaggerated pose) and it's a big no-no.

Golden Globes 2013: The best beauty looks

From the new Forties inspired hair and this season's colour wave to those perennial red carpet classics, here's our edit of the best beauty looks from the 2013 Golden Globe Awards.

Not veering far from her signature Sixties look (cat flick liner, beehive and pale lip) singer Adele simply turns up the gloss and glamour for her red carpet moment.
Created by stylist Adir Abergel (a member of the Frederic Fekkai dream team and the LA go to salon for red carpet hair) Anne Hathaway 's super chic, elfin crop got a little better with added texture for real effortless glamour.
Amanda Seyfried does peaches and creamy make up with gently brushed out tonged hair proving that less is most definitely more if you want to make it modern on the red carpet now.
Glenn Close may have mismatched her earrings but kept it low key with a beautiful barely there base and a touch of pink on her cheeks and lips. Keeping volume away from her crown also kept her hair bang on trend.
Golden girl Heidi Klum embraces this year's love affair with side swept hair, but keeps it this side of the Forties with fresh, glowing skin a la spring/summer 2013.
One of this year's most in-demand faces gets it right again. Jessica Chastain' s pinky red lip, fresh bare skin, exaggerated eye and Forties inspired hair nails all the biggest trends for this season, and beautifully so.
That hair (so on trend) that hint of electric orange lip (so good, and so now, if paired with a thick black lash) makes Jessica Alba one of our biggest beauty hits on the red carpet.
For american actress Rosario Dawson make up artist Mai Quynh created a beautifully understated look, by blending Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Terracotta, layered with Laura Mercier Eye Colour in Ground Coffee on the eyes. For the skin Quynh used Clarins Skin Smoothing Primer and Laura Mercier Oil-Free Supreme Foundation over the top, with a little pop of Nars Powder Blush in Amour over the apples of the cheeks.

Jennifer Lawrence covered up in Valentino
Actress Naomi Watts dazzled in Alexander McQueen

 Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang
Rumer Willis in a style by Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet

18th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards: Red carpet style

'Les Misérables' actress Amanda Seyfried chose a creation by London Fashion Week star Marios Schwab.
Teen star Elle Fanning wore Chanel.
Amy Adams carried this beautiful Vionnet dress perfectly
Emily Blunt dazzled in Miu Miu.
Petite actress Eva Longoria wore Monique Lhuillier.
Anne Hathaway plumped for a heavily beaded Oscar de la Renta gown. She picked up the Best Suporting Actress award for 'Les Miserables.'
Jessica Chastain wore Prada and won the Best Actress Award for her role in 'Zero Dark Thirty.'
Naomi Watts looked radiant in Emilio Pucci.
'Silver Linings Playbook' actress Jennifer Lawrence wore Prabal Gurung. Her film 'Silver Linings Playbook' won 'Best Acting Ensemble.'

SAG Awards 2013: red carpet beauty highlights

It was a beautiful evening in Hollywood last as leading ladies took to the red carpet for the 2013 SAG Awards. We round up the best beauty looks from the red carpet.

Rose tinted lips and cheeks and loose side swept hair is a hit on Amanda Seyfried .
For the girl who can make no mistakes, comes a look from Claire Danes that just isn't quite right. The make up balance (heavy lips, semi statement eye and asymmetric hair - to match already failing asymmetric dress) is just off. Plus, russet toned make up should never be assigned to blondes.
Jennifer Lawrence should have left it at the red lip, but adding a heavy smoky eye and side swept hair leaves her looking, well just a little awkward and overdone.
Love the brave blood red lips on Anne Hathaway against her signature porcelain skin, we're just not so sure about the grown out school boy crop.
We can forgive the delay on picking up the dip dye trend Lea Michelle (just) but the extremities of this example we just can't excuse.
Can she do no wrong? Jessica Chastain takes her hair and make-up down a notch on this red carpet, but with perfect skin, a satin rose lip, black lashes and 1940's inspired side swept hair, executes what trends she does do, perfectly.
This is heavenly make up and hair on Marion Cotillard who's taken three trends (the smoky eye, pink lip and side swept hair) and tweaked each one to keep them as flattering as can be.
Good make up on Nicole Kidman let down by hair that's spent too much time with straigtening irons, which should never make themselves known on the red carpet.

SAG Awards 2013: red carpet nail trends

From a rainbow of nudes to the smattering of nail art, here's our pick of the best, and worst, celebrity nails from the 2013 SAG Awards.

American actress Elisabeth Moss , she of Mad Men fame, matched her simple black cocktail dress with a clean colour pop on her nails.
Anne Hathaway proves that nail art is welcome on the red carpet, but one lowly butterfly over whited out nails doesn't quite make the 2013 grade. Baby steps.
Bare with us, this too is a trend, because as long as it's glossy and short (as Helen Hunt shows us how) completely naked nails are in fashion.
Just a glassy shine for Jennifer Garner who rightfully lets her dress to the talking.
A perfect peachy shade of pale for Amanda Seyfried.
Jennifer Lawrence keeping it super simple and demure, while also keeping it on trend, with a creamy pink natural nail.
A modern glossy top coat for Julianna Margulies , with a hint of dove grey to match her dress.
Kerry Washington goes one step ahead of the nail curve and embraces next season's opaque creamy, nude nail lacquer palette.

Sisters sharing the spotlight

From the Hollywood assault of Kate and Rooney Mara, to the Jagger siblings battling it out for modelling contracts, see how these sisters navigate the spotlight.

ELIZABETH AND GEORGIA MAY JAGGER
Big sister Lizzie Jagger (right) started out as a model but after a contract with Marks & Spencer in 2005, fizzled off the radar until recently with a mix of strange ad campaigns. Now, all eyes are locked on gap-toothed youngster Georgia May, who inherited her father's dazzling pout and model mother Jerry's blonde locks.

KATE AND ROONEY MARA
It seems like half the planet aren't aware that 27-year-old 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' star Rooney has an older sister in 29-year-old '127 Hours' actress Kate. Whilst the siblings' signature style couldn't be further apart, they should thank their parents for that shared bone structure which means they can carry off the harshest of hairlines.

BEYONCE AND SOLANGE KNOWLES
What 26-year-old Solange lacks in voice (well, compared to her superstar sis) she makes up for in style, stealing big sister Beyonce's limelight at red carpet events with her quirky but enviable style and that huge mane of hair.

ELIZABETH AND MARY-KATE AND ASHLEY OLSEN
For starters, little sister Elizabeth is a good half foot taller than her diminutive twin sisters, but she's also beating them in the acting stakes. While Mary-Kate and Ashley yearn to leave their cookie-cutter child star past behind them and establish themselves as cutting-edge designers, Elizabeth has confirmed herself as one of the hottest new actresses on the scene.

PEACHES AND PIXIE GELDOF
While older sister Peaches has undergone several reinventions - writer/ TV presenter/ divorcee/ mother, little Pixie has ridden out her penchant for ugly style and emerged as a nifty grungier with rather a good singing voice.

CARA AND POPPY DELEVINGNE
Big sister Poppy Delevingne, 26, (right) was doing just fine carving a career as a model; contracts with Simple skincare paid the bills, and a highbrow role as an ambassador for London Fashion Week soon landed on her doormat, but then came along little sis Cara, 20. Bagging a big-bucks contract as the face of Burberry and endless catwalk shows, it's all about little Delevingne and her big brows now…

SIENNA AND SAVANNAH MILLER
Sienna Miller's ascending star status helped pave the way for sister Savannah (left) to start up a fashion label together, Twenty8Twelve. Several years on, and the duo have left the label, with Sienna still making headlines with her film/ relationship choices and Savannah launching her eponymous, affordable label.
PIPPA MIDDLETON AND THE DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE
She's arguably the most famous bridesmaid in the world; Pippa Middleton almost upstaged her Duchess-to-be sister on her royal wedding day in a slinky Alexander McQueen gown - but it's her sister Kate who is now enjoying a truly regal lifestyle.
