Style tips from the week's best-dressed

From Seventies-style playsuits and flares to perfect midi-length dresses, be inspired by what the best-dressed stars have been sporting this week.

Draw the long straw
Model Jessica Hart 's block separates (and perfectly tanned pins) already make for a winning look, but her accessories take it from ordinary to outstanding. Add some Brigitte Bardot to your outfit with a straw basket bag and matching, oversized sun hat.

Accessorise with gusto
A boyfriend sweater, denim cut-offs and suede ankle boots make for eternally stylish summer bedfellows. Rachel Bilson adds the wow factor with a trio of standout accessories: oversized sunnies, a zingy Chloé handbag, and a super-cute baby (borrowed from a friend).

Make it a midi
Loved up Carey Mulligan (strolling through New York hand in hand with husband Marcus Mumford) looks the epitome of easy, breezy summer chic in her Liberty floral midi dress. Just add polished accessories.

Play with the Seventies
A denim playsuit is certainly not for everyone, but if you are as lithe and gangly as tomboy, Alexa Chung , channel the Seventies with some chunkyplatform sandals on your feet and a tight top underneath.

Button it
Whitney Port has been strolling the streets of L.A all summer, giving women everywhere lessons on the art of wearing shorts. What can we learn this week? A buttoned up shirt is the ideal way to balance out bare legs. We also love the grungy feel to this outfit - the patterns are perfect and the black leather converse are a great twist on a classic.

Give your blazer the cold shoulder
Stuck wondering how to feel summery when you're spending your days in the office? Take a leaf out of Rashida Jones ' book and team a light coloured skirt with a navy blazer. Except don't put the blazer on - drape it nonchalantly over your shoulders for a touch of French Riviera chic

Remember the old school
If you're headed to the races, try channeling old school glamour like Anna Friel who layered on the lace, pearls, floppy hat and Victorian shoes for a trip to Glorious Goodwood.

Show Some Flare
It can be difficult to pull off flares without looking like you're in fancy dress, but Olivia Munn kept it just the right side of 70's with this yellow crocheted top and orange clutch. The accessories - oversized sunglasses and hoop earrings could have tipped this outfit over the edge but Olivia kept it modern with her hair pulled back into a bun.

Play with proportions
If you have a long body/short leg ratio like Keira Knightley, a high waist is a quick and easy way to redresses the balance.
Bedtime is for daytime
Last season was all about pyjamas, but Jessica Biel makes a great case for wearing your nightdress and slippers outside here. Just make sure yours has a vintage cotton vibe and team with ultra-luxe slippers - this is not about a satin slip and boudoir heels.
