Two hats worn by Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge before she was married have sold at auction for three times their guide price.
The Duchess rented the hats for around £100 each from Get Ahead Hats in Reading for two separate occasions, and both were expected to sell for £1,000-£1,500 each.

The hats were part of the 'Passion for Fashion' auction held by Kerry Taylor, the same auction house which sold the now-infamous see-through dress Kate sported at a University of St Andrews fashion show for £78,000 last year.

If there's a right amount to spend on clothes when you're married to a future king, the lack of outrage surrounding the news of the Duchess of Cambridge's expenditure in the past five months suggests that £35,000 for the year so far is probably it.
