Hip, hot and made from Harris Tweed

Marks and Spencer join the 'heritage society' with a new menswear line made from Harris tweed.

Harris Tweed is one of the most traditional and rustic of fabrics; right now it is one of the hottest, too. Ever since Harris Tweed Hebrides took over a derelict mill at North Shawbost on the island of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides in 2007, business has been booming.

Designer labels like Alexander McQueen, Ralph Lauren, Vivienne Westwood, Calvin Klein, Sara Berman, and even Nike have all favoured this distinctive handwoven cloth flecked with colours from vegetable and lichen dyes. But this year has seen even further illustrious names added to the list.
